This beautiful and bird-rich tour takes us from the Spokane Valley to the foothills and mountains of the Cascades, and to desert oases and "potholes" of the Columbia River Basin. With such varied habitat, we will see an amazing number of species on their nesting grounds at wonderfully close range. Some of the birds we target are Clark's and Western grebe, Chukar, White-headed Woodpecker, Red-naped and Williamson's sapsuckers, American Dipper, Chestnut-backed and Mountain chickadees, Lazuli Bunting and Cassin's Finch.
We bird near small mountain and marshy lakes, in fragrant pine and fir forests, as well as grassy meadows and deciduous valleys. Respectfully, we will "owl prowl" for scouted owls. Red-necked Grebe, Barrow's Goldeneye, Redhead, Common Loon, Hooded Merganser, Blue Grouse and several woodpeckers are probable, as are shorebirds, inland gulls, terns and passerines.
